Studio Arts Scholarship Application

    $1,500 scholarships are available to incoming freshmen and transfer students. Scholarships are in addition to merit awards and are renewable for 4 years.

    *Admission to Canisius College as a full-time student for Fall 2023.
    *Completed application.
    *Link to an online portfolio (with password, if password protected) OR Flash drive of 15 labeled (your name, size, media, date created) works in any medium created within the last two years.

    Two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, or community and/or church leaders. One of the two letters should be from an art teacher familiar with the applicant’s work who can comment on the student’s art skills.

    After review of completed application by the scholarship committee, students will be notified by mail.

     Scholarship students must:
    *Maintain a 2.5 GPA.
    *Enter Canisius College with the intent to pursue a studio art minor.

    Materials and flash drive (if included) must be received by February 15, 2023 and can be sent as an email attachment to or mailed to

    1.       Letters of Recommendation
    List the two people who will be writing letters of recommendation for your application (include address and telephone number).  Have your letters of recommendations sent directly to the address below, or include them with your application packet.
    For Those Writing Letters of Recommendation:

         Thank you for taking the time to assist the above student seeking a scholarship to minor in studio art at Canisius College.  In your letter of recommendation, respond to the following three questions:

       How long and in what capacity have you known the applicant?

    How would you describe the applicant’s capacity for learning and creative problem solving, particularly through visual media?

    From your perspective what are the applicant’s personal strengths?
    2.      Studio Art Experience Résumé: Submit a list your studio art experiences and years of your involvement with them. 

    3.      Portfolio:  Provide a link to your online portfolio (with password if password protected) OR you can email the images directly to; portfolios should have 15 images. Identify medium used and year of completion near each image.
