Music Scholarship Application

    AWARD
    $1,500 scholarships are available to incoming freshmen and transfer students. The scholarships are in addition to merit awards and are renewable for four years. (See criteria and conditions below).

    CRITERIA
    * Admission to Canisius University as a full-time student for Fall 2024
    * High school music performance experience (solo or ensemble)
    * Scholarship application and reference letters
    * Recorded solo audition

    - Vocal: Two songs in contrasting styles of music (two classical or one classical and one musical theater; accompaniment required). Please, no ensemble or choir recordings.
    - Instrumental: Two pieces with contrasting styles of music (selections of movements or etudes are acceptable); 2 major and 2 minor scales.

    REFERENCES        
    Include two letters of recommendation. At least one of the letters should be from a music teacher.
    Other suggested sources include high school principal, teacher, guidance counselor, and community or church leader.

    AUDITION
    Auditions will be virtual and submitted as video or audio recordings. The scholarship committee will make final selection of scholarship recipients.

    CONDITIONS        
    Scholarship students must:

    *Maintain a GPA of 2.5.
    * Continue active participation in a Canisius University performance ensemble as determined by the scholarship committee (Chorale, Chamber Orchestra, or Jazz Ensemble).
    * Maintain an Active membership in Canisius Music Scholars club / Attend club meetings.
    * Usher at ArtsCanisius events during the academic year. (Once or twice per year on average.)
