Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Application 2025

    Grounded in the Jesuit philosophy of “men and women for others,” social justice is a key component of Canisius University’s commitment creating the next generation of leaders. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was at the forefront of social justice in America, and we honor his life and his dedication to peace and equality through the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Program.

    The scholarship deadline is January 20, 2025, and is only open to first-year, full-time students entering Canisius for the fall 2025 semester. Students must apply for admission to Canisius University and receive acceptance by January 20, 2025. The review applicants will be based on personal achievements, involvement in community service, and commitment to the ideals of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

    Students who receive the MLK scholarship will be able to renew their scholarship for four years while studying at Canisius. Administered through the Canisius Opportunity Programs for Education Office, students must meet the following criteria to receive the scholarship award of $1,000:

    • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.25.
    • Complete 10 hours of service per semester in a community setting that fulfills a social justice mission.
    • Meet with the scholarship mentor, Associate Dean for Diversity & Inclusion twice per semester to select service placements and to monitor personal and academic progress.
